Recount
of our trip to Thindi
Saara’s
class, Omer, Mikhaila and her friend and the DaNgimalmin mob went to Thindi on
Tuesday. Thindi is a beach that belongs to Melpi mob. It takes about 30 minutes
to drive there from Wadeye.
First we took
some photos for our science project about climate change.
Then we had
cuppa. We had muesli bars, eggs and oranges. After cuppa we took some more
climate change photos.
Next we went
fishing. We caught a crab and we cooked it on a fire and ate it. It tasted like
fish.
After that we
started driving back to school but we stopped because we saw turtle tracks in
the sand. We looked for turtle eggs but there was nothing.

Crafternoon
We customised our uniform shorts today. The uniforms were a big hit last year when we first got them but lately there haven't been many kids wearing them.
I think we did a pretty good job making them look a bit more colourful and exciting - just like the students themselves!
The class next door have been working on this beautiful map of Wadeye for a couple of days now. It looks amazing. The school is on there as well as all the teachers' houses and the boarding school.
Well done!

There was a big funeral in town and most of the students were attending. We only had two students in class today so we made the most of the peace and quiet and made some posters for the girls to take home.

Playlists
Often, when we have finished our work, play some music in the class while the students have free time or FT as we call it.
We learned how to make playlists on Youtube so we don't have to argue over who gets to play their music. This way everyone's song will get played.
So far, we have two playlists:
In my
opinion, we should put Manowar on the playlist.
Firstly, I like Manowar because
that’s always my best song.
Secondly,
because that is my favourite music.
Thirdly, everyone
have a dance.
- Edward -
I think
Beyonce because she’s a good singer.
Firstly, I
like her song because she’s are good singer.
Secondly,
beyonce she is a good dancer.
Thirdly, I like her voice.
Thirdly, I like her voice.
- Cassie -
I think we should put that song Selena Gomez on the playlist. Firstly
her songs make me happy. Secondly I like her dance moves. Thirdly, I like her
music. In conclusion she would be good
on the playlist.

Last term we
studied how and why white people came to Australia. We found out most of the
first whitefellas came from Britain and many Australians thought of Britain as
their mother country.
Then things
started changing. People came from all over the world and Britain wasn’t very
important to them.
Some of the
First Australians, the old Australians and the New Australians don’t like the
flag we have now because it has the British flag in it.
We had a go
designing a brand new flag!
- Saara -
My name is Beatrice.
This is my flag. I put my colours Blue, Red, Yellow, Black and Gray, Brown and White.
I use the
black yellow and red because that’s the colour of Aboriginal flags. I put the Emu
and the Kangaroo because that’s our silver in Australia.- BEATRICE -
My name is
Merle and this is my flag. The colours I chose to use are green and black,
yellow and brown because they are good colours. I put a kangaroo on my flag
because there are kangaroos in Australia.
- Merle -
My
name is Saara and here are two flags I designed. I chose to use the colours of
the Indigenous flag - black, red and yellow. I also picked blue from the
current flag. I added gold and green from the colours Aussies wear in
sporting events.
On
one flag, I put the kangaroo and, in the other, I put the Southern Cross. I
thought they would be good symbols that represent everyone.
- Saara -
Here are some other flags:
Happy Mother's Day!
A Woman I admire is Marip. She is my grandmother.
She is an Indigenous leader in the community.
She is a
teacher for the high school teaching Religion.
She is the boss in high school.
She is friends with Principal, John Young.
